How we work

OUR PROGRAMS

We have many educational opportunities available to the youth such as Open-Shows, vet ran clinics and educational centers to teach our youth about the many aspects of owning a pygmy goat. Our older children along with our Board Members and Leaders who have had the years of experience will lead the way in teaching our newest members the many aspects of pygmy goat life from trimming hooves to how to assist a doe through kidding season

Communication & Resourcefulness

Communication is the key to any thriving club as well as for any child. We encourage our youth to learn the skills necessary to complete their own buyer letters, improve interview skills and have the confidence needed to face any new challenge.

Educational Opportunities

Our county’s youth have the opportunity to come to one of our many events ran by older members of the San Joaquin Pygmy Goat Association and our youth coordinator, they get hands-on lessons and guidance to further develop the skills needed to further explore the love they have for their communities animals and agriculture as a whole. We will have on-site veterinarians to assist, and some courses to come.

Hoof Trimming and Disbudding

Hoof trimming and Disbudding are an essential part of pygmy goat management. Before a child brings their very own pygmy goat home, we encourage them to get educated on the many aspects of goat life. The SJPGA will have many educational opportunities for our youth to learn from the older members as well as an on-site vet.

Breeding and Kidding

Kidding, the act of the birthing process in goats, is the culmination of the breeding process in goats. It is vital that pygmies are well looked after before and after the breeding season. Before a child brings their very own pygmy goat home, we encourage them to get educated on the many aspects of goat life. The SJPGA will have many educational opportunities for our youth to learn from the older members as well as an on-site vet.

Proper Pygmy Care

Pygmy goats can live for up to 15 years and are, as with any animal, a commitment but if you can provide the right environment and can commit enough time to them they do make a lovely addition to any family. Before a child bring their very own pygmy goat home, we encourage them to get educated on the many aspects of goat life. The SJPGA will have many educational opportunities for our youth to learn from the older members about the proper care for Pygmies.
